VIII. Declaration of Emergency
A. Activation of a ‘Campus State of Emergency'
Only the President, or the Provost or a designee acting on behalf of the President, has the authority to declare a campus state of emergency.

DECLARATION OF A CAMPUS STATE OF EMERGENCY

As a result of :_____________________________ occurring on :_____________ at :________________ conditions of peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen within the Georgia State University campus, warranting the necessity for, and declaration of, a Campus State of Emergency. These conditions cannot be fully responded to with available University resources.

Georgia State University emergency policies and procedures empower the President to declare a Campus State of Emergency when the campus has been affected by an emergency or disaster. A declaration of emergency is made to protect the lives and property of Georgia State University and to comply with laws and regulations for requesting assistance from local, state and federal agencies. During these emergency conditions the powers, functions, and duties of the emergency organization of Georgia State University shall be those prescribed by the Georgia State University Emergency Action Plan.

The Campus State of Emergency shall be deemed to continue to exist until its termination is declared by the President of Georgia State University.

A copy of this declaration will be forwarded to City of Atlanta and Fulton County officials and the University System of Georgia.
